God’s been busy this past weekend. The passing of Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac.

I got hip to this photo from reading Sean from E Yorks comment on BBC.com’s article Soul Icon Isaac Hayes dies at 65.  You can find it and other info related to the late great Isaac Hayes at http://www.isaachayes.com.  Kind of eerie, huh?  I know if I were Samuel Jackson, despite the grieving a photo like this would totally weird me out.

I’m working my crazy work schedule right now so I’m supposed to be sleeping at the moment, but I wanted to at least throw a quick post up here.  Share any comments or interesting reads on either artist, and I promise to come back and beef this up soon.

Ok, here’s some more info…

ISAAC HAYES (from BBC.com)

“Police were called after his wife found him unconscious next to a moving treadmill. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hayes, a flamboyant, deep-voiced performer, won an Oscar for the 1971 hit Theme From Shaft.

He was perhaps better known to a younger audience as the voice of Chef from the hit cartoon show, South Park.

The cause of death was not immediately known…

Hayes was also in several movies, including It Could Happen to You with Nicolas Cage, and Ninth Street with Martin Sheen.

He achieved a different of popularity later in life as the voice of the South Park character, Chef. But he angrily quit the show in 2006 after an episode mocked Scientology, a religious movement to which he belonged.”

BERNIE MAC

By far, the best article I’ve read about Bernie was from People Magazine.  It’s very touching as you get his family’s recount of his final hours.

Read the entire article- Bernie Mac’s Death:  What Happened?

“”He opened his eyes on his own and looked at Rhonda. She called his name, and he opened his eyes and nodded to her. She smiled at him and told him, ‘Don’t leave me … ‘I’m waiting for you to come back.’ He shrugged his shoulders, and she said that’s when she knew he was tired. He signaled to her that his body was tired.” …

…Mac’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16, at an undisclosed location. The family requests that donations be made to the Bernie Mac Foundation for Sarcoidosis, 40 E. Ninth St., Suite 601, Chicago IL 60605.
