I love saying “Arrra”…it’s so DC to me. 8-)
In the famous words of dearly departed Johnny Cochran, “if it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” And that, my friends, is what happened for Mr. Arrra Kelly just a few days ago. I was on the anti-Kelly train, but as I read all of these reports, I can only imagine that it’s so easy to insert reasonable doubt in this daytime drama of a tale. Here’s just a sampling of news stories.

The video allegedly features Kelly with the then 14 year-old niece of Sparkle, one of the singer’s former artists and proteges. Since his arrest, Kelly has vigorously denied that the man in the video is actually him. The alleged victim and her parents have also publicly denied that she is the person on the tape. The video, which was widely bootlegged and made available to the public, furthered wide spread debate and opinion on whether or not the man in the video was indeed Kelly…
…The R&B thug also faced 12 counts of child pornography in Polk County, Florida in January of 2003 after police searched the singer’s home and found a digital camera containing 12 images of an underage female. Three of the images were said to show Kelly involved in a sexual act, but those charges were later dropped after a judge ruled that the evidence was seized illegally… (source: www.sohh.com)

…He has previously settled lawsuits brought by two women who accused him of having sex with them when they were minors. Documents have also shown that Kelly married the late singer Aaliyah, his former protege, when she was just 15. The marriage was later annulled… (source: cnn.com)

…Expert witnesses for the prosecution said that the VHS tape, whose origin is unknown, was a multigeneration copy but had not been tampered with. Prosecutors also pointed out how the man on the tape turned his back briefly to the camera. It was less than a quarter of a second, but enough time to see a mole on his back — just like the one Mr. Kelly has.
While 14 witnesses for the prosecution identified the girl in the tape, and some identified Mr. Kelly as well, only one tied them together in a sexual relationship. That was Lisa Van Allen, who testified that she had a three-way sexual encounter with them…. (source nytimes.com)

Well Arrra, Mr. Modern Day Michael Jackson without all the plastic surgery, continue to sing your Jesus praises as you flirt with your persona of inspirational gift and freaky pimp daddylicious. I’m not a fan of him really, but occasionally he has put together a few greats on both sides of the fence he rides.
Just like OJ, we’ll just never know…

I haven’t like Mr Arrra Kelly since he married Aaliyah. I thought he was weird then. He’s guilty. Didn’t you see the boondocks episode. Sums up the public view of him perfectly.
Hey, I was going to mention the Boondocks episode. Now what can I contribute to the conversation? Oh yes. R. Kelly’s not in jail yet?
Its all sad to me. Kelly will have to answer to his Maker at some point in time. I just wish that he had been charged with something, but the police seem to do things backwards. We all know from watching Law and Order and other criminal justice shows that you hav to follow the law for anything to stick. Had those tapes been obtained correctly I believe he would have been in jail long before the trial finally was allowed to start. The statute of limitations was bound to run out at some point. PLus it took so long, even though i didn’t ,peopel prob started to forget and not care as much. Plus deny deny deny seems to always work for men. There was a pay off across the board no doubt!!!!!
@Bianca Reagan…Thanks for linking to your blog post “R. Kelly’s not in jail yet?” in your comment (I didn’t pick up on that right away and thought others might do the same).
I upset myself as I realize how numb I’ve become to these allegations against music artists. I was so fired up about this when the news first broke that I stopped listening to his songs when they came on the radio. I should be outraged but instead I feel more like “it figures”. We need to start holding these artists accountable outside the court system by stop buying their music. Child pornography? I mean a story attached to any other person would make you dry heave.
@Fallon Hester…I saw that Boondocks episode. McGruder did a good job with that one.
@Lady Feezy…You are right. It’s a shame they botched up the collection of evidence. He will indeed have to answer to his Maker when all is said and done.
